Friday Evening Bridge: We are a social bridge group with usually two to three tables. We meet in members’ homes on the first Friday of the month at 7:00 p.m. from September to November, and in April and May. In June, we have our pizza bridge with salads and desserts. We welcome new members including couples and singles. Leader: Diane Conde.
Garden
Garden: Members’ varied interests and backgrounds are reflected in our programs. Whether you grow beautiful flowers and edible plants in your own garden or simply have an interest in learning about nature and protecting the environment, there is much to learn and share. Many speakers are experts in their fields and members occasionally present programs. We sometimes have a potluck and planning session at the first or last meeting of the year, and in December we create small evergreen tabletop arrangements for the enjoyment of various groups and organizations in the area. Meetings are held 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on the 2nd Monday of the month, September to May. We meet in members’ homes or at a public library, or go on field trips to local farms and gardens. We plan to hold as many in-person meetings as possible, both indoors and outdoors, using Zoom meetings in the case of inclement weather. Leaders: Sally Esckilsen-Bush and Kari Michalowski.
Garden Amateurs: Beginning and experienced gardeners learn about various aspects of gardening and related topics from programs given by members and occasional guest speakers. We also visit nearby gardens and nature areas. We meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 1:00 p.m. We normally meet at the Ann Arbor City Club and have lunch together before our meeting. Leader: Judy Wilhelme.
Fitness
Hiking: We meet on Tuesdays promptly at 9:30 a.m. (8:30 a.m. mid-June through August) rain, shine or snow. When there are thunderstorms, please stay safely at home. Hikes are usually three to four miles or about one to two hours; more distant hikes can take three to four hours including driving time. We never walk more than five miles, and walking speeds vary within the group. There is sure to be someone else who walks at your pace. For out of town hikes we meet to carpool. Trails can be wet! Insect repellent may be needed! When Ann Arbor Public Schools are closed due to weather, there will be no hike. Leaders: Clevie Daniels and Ruth Graves.
Yoga: Our Yoga instructor, Jasmijn Quon, provides beginner-level instruction for the group. This is an excellent way to increase your flexibility and balance while getting a good workout. We generally meet year-round, Friday mornings, 10:00-11:00 a.m., on Zoom. The fee is $10 per session attended. Leaders: Susan Flint and Sherry Warden.
